How Healthy is your support system?

Everyone needs a healthy support system. While it is possible to live without one, this can be very hard on you and make living life very difficult. The reason that we all need a healthy support system is that we are social creatures who depend on others

What is a healthy support system?

A healthy support system consists of reliable people who listen, offer advice, and help with practical tasks. This includes family, friends, mentors, and coworkers—anyone who truly cares for you.

Maintaining a Positive Network
It’s crucial to ensure your support network remains healthy. Relationships can sometimes turn toxic, offering harmful advice or being unsupportive. If you notice negative outcomes, reassess your connections.

Addressing Toxic Relationships
Removing toxic individuals can be tough, especially if they’re long-time friends or family. However, it’s essential for your well-being. It can be hard to cut negative people out of your support group, especially if they are family members or have been friends with you for a while. In order to cut them out of your group, you need to stop involving them.
Don’t discuss your problems with them and don’t go to them for help. You can still be friends with someone without having them in your support group. Remember that having a healthy support system helps support your health. When you cut someone out of your support system, you can do so without being mean or unkind to them.
You can distance yourself by not seeking their advice or help, and remaining friends without including them in your support system. If they question the change, you can choose to explain or not.

Consequences of Lacking Support
If your support system isn’t healthy, or if you don’t have one at all, there is a lot of additional strain put on you.
A lot of times in life, things happen and sometimes, these things are very difficult to solve on your own. Having people that you can depend on allows you to have a backup. It means that it’s not the end of the world when you are having a bad day or time.

While we all wish that we didn’t have problems in life, that simply isn’t the case. A healthy support system can help you live your best life and be prepared for the hard days. They help you grow and advance in life as well as help you learn and overcome. Having a healthy support system can make the difference between surviving and thriving in life.

Take a moment and look at your support group. Are there people you can count on who will be there when you need them? Is it family, or friends, or both? If you are fortunate to have such people in your life, reach out and let them know how much you appreciate them. Ask how they are doing and let them know you are also there for them.

Share the love.
