Lessons from walking the Camino and the importance of a healthy support system

In May 2024, I decided to walk the Camino from Porto in Portugal to Santiago in Spain. It is said that the Camino teaches you very important lessons. Walking for weeks every day through towns, villages, and forests, allows you to be in tune with yourself and nature and enjoy the silence and peace that comes from walking many hours a day. I learned that, like life, you have to have a plan, a destination to reach every day, and a determination to achieve your goal. Here are some other life lessons I learned along the way. As in lifeYou have to be open to change, as the weather, and other conditions, including your endurance level, and that of your walking companion, can change.Everyone is on their own journey and moving at their own pace. Don’t try to keep up with others. Walk at your own pace. Some may appear to be ahead of you but at some point, you may catch up and may even pass them.To offer assistance, a word of advice, a listening ear, when needed, even if it slows you down for a while. If you are willing to ask, help can be found, even from strangers. To trust your partner, even when you are not sure if they are right, but have faith and be willing to forgive if their decision was wrong. To listen to your body, and rest when needed. It’s not about just reaching your destination, but enjoying the journey, pacing yourself, and arriving safe and healthy. Take time to smell the flowers, and enjoy the scenery, and the people on the way, as you may never pass this way again. Live in the moment. Listen, share, and embrace another person’s story without judgment, and realize that no matter what race, country, age, or background someone is from, everyone has a story, and is on a personal journey. You also learn that it’s good to have a support system in place- someone, or someplace you can turn to when you need direction or help. Same as in life. Buen Camino! |

![]() QIP enhances your meditations and improves your mental, emotional, and physical health. Here’s what people are experiencing: “Before QIP I had extreme tension throughout the body which made movement difficult and painful at times. Also, this created massive anxiety and panic attacks, feelings of dread and hopelessness. I was unable to have restful sleep for many years. After QIP, the tensions throughout the body have been significantly released. I am sleeping better. I feel joyful and experience a deep sense of release of physical and emotional knots. This is an inner transformational process. It has cleared up so much negativity from my mind and has released so much tightness in my body after being locked up for so long. I feel like I have a new lease on life”. … Ada RamkerrysinghClick this link to learn more about QIP |
